Tata Nexon EV coupe concept To Be Revealed On April 6
Tata Motors will present an all-new electric SUV concept on April 6, 2022, and has released a collection of teaser photographs ahead of the event. According to our sources, this all-new EV SUV concept will serve as a teaser for the future Nexon EV coupe.
The company is working on an extended version of the Nexon with a Coupe body type, as we previously revealed exclusively. While the idea will focus on the electric version, Tata Motors is expected to develop IC powertrains for the future SUV as well.
Tata’s original goal, as we previously reported, was to reveal the Tata Nexon EV Coupe as a concept during the 2022 Auto Expo, which would take place in February. Tata has opted to showcase the idea on its own, as the Auto Expo has been postponed until January 2023.
The Tata Nexon EV Coupe will be available in showrooms by 2024, but the market debut is still a ways off. Tata intends to sell 25,000 all-electric Nexon Coupes in the first full year of manufacturing, with numbers expected to climb dramatically as electrification accelerates.
The teasers don’t offer much, but it’s evident that the new idea will be well-designed. Slim DRLs and a strip join them on the front, which is partially visible. Triangular lights may also be seen below. Certain aspects, such as the raked roof and alloys, are also shown in the teaser. The prototype might potentially have novel features that aren’t found in existing Tata vehicles. We should anticipate a lot of the Nexon Coupe’s design to flow into the production version, given how many Tata production vehicles have closely matched the concepts.
The Tata Nexon EV Coupe will be a midsize SUV that competes with the Creta and is built on the same X1 platform as the Nexon. According to sources, the wheelbase has been lengthened by 50mm due to a change in wheel geometry, while the overall length is roughly 4.3 meters, putting the Nexon Coupe squarely in the center of the midsize SUV sector in terms of dimensions.
According to insiders, the Nexon Coupe will be released first as an electric vehicle. There is no information on the engine, but it’s reasonable to presume it’ll employ the same electric motor as the current Nexon EV, but with a larger 40kWh battery pack like the one planned in the long-range Nexon EV. The new SUV is also expected to use an updated version of the Nexon EV’s electric powertrain, which will have more power and torque than the present 129hp and 245Nm output.
In terms of IC powertrains, the larger Nexon Coupe might have a larger 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, which the firm is said to be working on. Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel engine will most likely be retained, but with improvements to make it compliant with the impending BS6 Stage 2 standards.
The Nexon EV coupe will compete in India against the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV when it arrives. The ICE-powered variant, which will be released later, will compete with the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. In this price range, it will be the only coupe-styled SUV. The coupe variant of the XUV700 has also been approved by Mahindra. It would be fascinating to watch how the new generation of coupe-styled SUVs is received by the market.
