Skoda Rapid TSI Automatic Launch Date Revealed
After opening automatic bookings last month for the Skoda Rapid TSI, the carmaker has now made it official that the sedan will be formally unveiled on September 17th, 2020. The car can be pre-booked through all Skoda approved dealership facilities in the country and on Skoda’s website for a token amount of INR 25,000.
Those who automatically receive a priority status by pre-booking the Skoda Rapid TSI and the cars will be shipped to these customers from 18 September 2020.
In terms of running gear, an engine that displaces 999 ccs is at the heart of the new Skoda Rapid TSI automatic. The new 1.0 TSI petrol engine tri-cylinder cranks out 110 PS of power at 5000 – 5500 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1750 – 4000 rpm. The new Rapid automatic offers 16.24 kmpl under normal test conditions, with the six-speed automatic transmission.
The new Skoda Rapid AT provides a 5 percent increase in power and a 14 percent improvement in torque output compared with the outgoing 1.6 MPI engine. At the same time, the new Rapid provides an improvement in fuel efficiency of 9 percent compared to the previous model. We expect this new automatic gearbox to be offered at higher trim levels, and prices could begin near the ex-showroom INR 10 lakh mark. Like the Rider model, though, Skoda could sell a specific model at an affordable price to duplicate the spike in interest around the sedan.
The Skoda Rapid TSI automatic will stand up against the likes of the automatic Vento TSi, the new Verna, and the new Honda City. The Rapid will no longer be sold as its BS4 variant with the DSG gearbox but will get a traditional but more powerful torque converter unit instead.
The new Hyundai Verna comes with a dual-clutch gearbox coupled with its turbo-petrol engine. The Honda Zone, on the other hand, makes do with a CVT. So when it comes to making a decision there is something for everyone. Among the three, though, it’s the Skoda that remains the most satisfying package when it comes to on-road dynamics, even though it has remained more or less unchanged since it was first sold many moons ago.
