Nissan has revealed a strategy to revamp its global product range as part of a wider push to improve profitability. Aside from announcing the next Z sportscar, the future line-up video teaser also provided some glimpses of the India-bound compact Magnite SUV.
In the past, Nissan India published Magnite teasers: a diffused image of the profile of the SUV and a detail shot of the tail-lamp were displayed. Nissan’s new video reveals a few aspects of the face of the compact SUV. The SUV will be sporting a hexagonal grille as we saw on recent Datsun models. Originally the Magnite was designed as a Datsun SUV but will be marketed as a Nissan. The grille will be surrounded by large intakes on either side that will be enriched by huge daytime running lamps with L-shaped LEDs. The headlights tend to be home to LED components, too.
The footage also shows the SUV with a crossover-like model. Some of the other elements which will help the Magnite stand out among other compact SUVs are chunky wheel arches, black cladding, and dual-tone exterior paint shades. We also expect premium-looking wheels.
The Interior of the Nissan Magnite has not yet disclosed, but speculation is that it will be mounted with features. Some things to expect are a 360-degree parking camera, connected automobile tech, and automatic climate control.
The basic and lower-spec versions of the SUV will be powered by a 1.0-liter 72hp petrol engine offered in some variants with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. Higher models can receive the requisite oomph courtesy of a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering around 95hp. This engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox with CVT. Diesel engines will not be on sale.
As reported,Nissan Magnite will be aggressively priced. Expect the entry-level version for a tag price of Rs 5.25 lakh ( ex-showroom). There are talks that a sub-Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag could be used even for the 1.0 turbo-petrol engine with a CVT. Rival compact SUVs will range from Rs 7 lakh, for reference.
The disruptive pricing of the Magnite could completely overhaul the compact SUV segment. Nissan has announced to launch the Magnite in August 2020, just ahead of the festive season. However, launch plans for the Magnite could change due to the continuingCOVID-19 lockout and the restrictions surrounding it.
Nissan Magnite rivals well with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue.
