New Porsche Cayenne, revealed
The name of the GTS has returned to the Porsche Cayenne, adding in a V8 to replace the twin-turbocharged V6 of the last model. It is available for the first time in an SUV-coupe shape, too.
The new GTS is putting out 460hp and 620Nm of torque from a detuned version of the 550hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine from the Cayenne Turbo. That is more than the old V6, about 20hp, and 19Nm.In a claimed 4.5sec (with the Sport Chrono pack fitted) it completes the 0-100kph sprint and goes on to a top speed of 278kph.
As is common with this more athletic version, the GTS sports a lower ride height – by 20 mm when in its standard steel springs and by 30 mm with the optional three-chamber air suspension – than fewer Cayennes. In addition to the Torque Vectoring Plus system, the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, with a custom tuning for the GTS, is standard. Satin black 21-inch alloy wheels show brakes (390 mm front discs and 358 mm rear) with red-painted calipers, while tungsten-carbide surface coating or a full-ceramic package is available as an alternative. Four-wheel steering and active roll stabilization are also on the options list.
In, the GTS standardizes the Sports Hardware kit, incorporating black air intakes, side window trims, tailpipes, and, oddly, GTS logos. Also, dark-tinted are the LED headlights and the tail-light bar.
The GTS Coupe also features an optional sports exhaust, with two central oval tailpipes on standard GTS instead of the outer-positioned pipes.Inside, Alcantara features prominently throughout, along with dark-brushed aluminum and red detailing, while standard eight-way sports seats with GTS logos are electronically adjustable.
Porsche unveiled the latest Cayenne here for the Indian market in 2018, with the introduction of the Cayenne Coupe late last year. Although there's no news about the GTS models yet, sometime in the future the carmaker might launch them in India.
