Mini Cooper SE India Bookings To Commence This Month
Mini India has teased the Cooper SE on social media, implying that it would be released soon. The business is scheduled to accept bookings for the Cooper SE by October 29, with a price announcement in February or March of the following year. According to dealer sources, the first batch will only include 30 machines for India, with deliveries beginning in April. The Cooper SE, the brand’s first all-electric car, will arrive in India as a CBU in a single, fully loaded configuration in 2019.
The Mini Cooper SE will also be the BMW Group’s first all-electric car to be sold in India. The Cooper SE is based on the Cooper 3-door hatchback, and while the two cars appear to be almost identical, the SE replaces the internal combustion engine with an electric motor and a battery.
The Mini Cooper SE looks almost comparable to the standard Cooper hatchback that so many people adore. All of Cooper’s conventional design aspects, like the circular, LED headlamps, the Union Jack-themed LED taillamps, and, of course, the familiar profile, have been kept.
The blanked-out front grille with a new ‘E’ symbol, a slightly reprofiled front bumper, a reworked rear bumper that no longer has to house exhaust pipes, and the yellow highlights on the door mirror caps and wheels are all major differentiators. In fact, the Cooper SE’s unusual wheel shape is designed to resemble a British plug socket. To make room for the battery pack, it sits 15mm taller than the combustion-engined variant. White Silver, Midnight Black, Moonwalk Grey, and British Racing Green are the four colour options for the Cooper SE in India.
On the inside, the Cooper SE’s cabin is readily recognisable. The main dashboard design is quite similar to that of the conventional Cooper hatchback; however, the Cooper SE is the first Mini to use a new digital instrument cluster. The only other alteration is a new toggle switch for the multi-level brake-regeneration system on the centre console, with the yellow accent extending to the inside as well. The cabin and boot room, according to Mini, are largely unaffected by the new powertrain.
The Mini Cooper SE is driven by an electric motor that generates 184 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque and is fed by a 32.6kWh battery positioned in a T-shape beneath the passenger seat. Only the front wheels receive power, resulting in a 0-100kph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 150kph. The Cooper SE has four driving modes: Mid, Sport, Green, and Green+, and the powertrain is shared with the BMW i3 hatchback.
The Mini Cooper SE has been tuned to strike a compromise between acceptable city driving range and desired performance levels, resulting in a WLTP-certified range of 235-270 kilometres. Mini claims that a 50kW charge point can charge the Cooper SE from 0 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes, while an 11kW wall box can charge it from 0 to 80 per cent in 150 minutes – or 210 minutes on a full charge.
In India, the Cooper SE will face no direct competition because cars like the Mercedes EQC, Jaguar I-Pace, and Audi e-Tron are substantially larger and more expensive. When it is released, however, it will be India’s most cheap premium EV.
