MG Comet EV Interior Unveiled
MG Motor first revealed the external design of the future Comet EV earlier this month, and now the automaker has unveiled the first interior photo of its electric urban runabout. As we’ve already mentioned, the inside of the Comet EV is quite similar to that of the Indonesian Wuling Air EV, on which it is based.
The Mg Comet EV will have a two-spoke steering wheel with two control sets on each side, as depicted in the illustration. The wheel’s rounded, multi-purpose buttons, which were modeled after Apple’s iPod, are anticipated to be used to handle, among other things, the infotainment system’s voice commands and audio playback. The Comet EV’s austere interior design does go well with the straightforward, two-spoke wheel.
A dual-screen setup with two 10.25-inch screens is also visible behind the steering wheel. On the dashboard, it is a floating unit that is organized. Just beneath the screen are two horizontally positioned AC vents, as well as rotary air conditioning controls with chrome accents.
Although MG hasn’t yet provided a complete list of amenities, the Comet EV will be marketed as a high-end intra-city runabout, thus MG will undoubtedly not compromise on frills. It is anticipated to include voice controls, an electric parking brake, hill-start assistance, keyless entry and ignition, drive modes, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and other connected car technologies.
Also anticipated is a dual-tone treatment for the interior. Being an electric car from the start, it will also benefit from this platform’s packaging advantages, creating a spacious interior. However, because of its compact size, it will only be available as a four-seater variant.
The 20kWh battery for the Comet EV is anticipated to be sourced locally by Tata AutoComp. According to our sources, the Comet EV could have a driving range of up to 250 kilometers and will likely be approved by iCAT, exactly like MG’s other electric vehicle, the ZS EV. A single motor positioned on the Comet’s rear axle is anticipated to provide between 45 – 50 horsepower.
The Comet EV will be fully unveiled by MG in the following days, and a price announcement is anticipated for May. In the electric hatchback market, it will initially face competition from the Tata Tiago EV (Rs 8.69 lakh–11.99 lakh) and the recently unveiled Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50 lakh–12.43 lakh). To make the MG Comet EV as competitive as possible, it will be assembled in India with over 60% localization. The Comet EV is anticipated to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, ex-showroom.
