Mercedes-Benz EQA Global Unveil Delayed
The official unveiling and global launch of Mercedes-Benz’s all-new EQA have until 2021.
Initially planned for the third quarter of 2020 to reveal its production version for the new electric crossover in a slightly dissimilar prototype during cold-weather testing in March, with international sales beginning before year-end.
A reorganization of the electric car manufacturing operations of Mercedes, constant problems in battery cell supply, and disorder caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are reported to have caused a delay. The delay for the new model will be approximately six months and will expire in the first half of 2021.
According to Mercedes’s sources, a shift to the production site for the next EQB is one of the key organizational changes that affected the launch plan.
Originally, the third EQ was designed to be installed in Hambach’s Smart Fortwo plant in France. Nevertheless, ongoing discussions regarding the sale by the facility to Ineos and the subsequent decision to move EQB production to Rastatt, Germany, where the EQA is expected.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA will be a fully electric model based largely on the GLA crossover of the second generation. The new Volkswagen ID 3 will compete with the likes.
Two different variants of the EQA with standard single-motor front-wheel drive and four-wheel optional double-engine drive are currently planned.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA, along with the EQB and EQS, will also be one of three new electric Mercedes that will be on sale in 2021. In 2022 a fourth model, EQE, will be sold.
A word from the performance division of Mercedes’ AMG suggests that a four-wheel-drive EQA version could be on the cars.
There’s nothing official, but the reports say that AMG prepares a high-performance EQA model with an upgraded rear engine that delivers the performance of the newly unveiled GLA 45 S.
The German Luxury Car Manufacturer has not officially announced his plans to market the EQA. Mercedes-Benz has, nevertheless, confirmed that in the coming months it will bring its brand EQ to India with the start of the EQC.
