Maserati MC20 To Use Bespoke Bridgestone Potenza Tyres Which Claims 0-100kph in 2.9sec
When deliveries of the performance-oriented MC20 Supercar start in international markets in the second quarter of 2021, it is going to be on a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires. The pulls were designed specifically to match the new supercar’s driving dynamics.
The Maserati MC20 is powered by the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo, ‘Nettuno’ V6 petrol engine of Maserati, which can lower the rear wheels to 630hp and 730Nm torque. Bridgestone claims to have developed a high-efficiency version, specifically for MC20, of its F1-derived ‘Potenza’ pipes.
According to the Japanese tires, the in-house pneumatic elements include an asymmetric string design to increase steering responsiveness and cornering stability, a new string component to strengthen grip, and a structure which equally distributes footprint while curling. The custom rubber supports the MC20 in just 2.9seconds for a 0-100kph sprint and hit a 200kph mark at 8.8seconds from a standstill. Top speed at 325 km / h is rated.
Bridgestone found that its efforts to develop custom tires, which required the short 24-month period during which the Maserati MC20 was designed, were aided by its own ‘virtual tire modeling technology’ which reduced the development process’s length. Also, the virtual development technique of the tire maker contributed to limit the use of resources and to reduce the impact on the environment.
Steven De Bock, VP, consumer substitution and OE, Bridgestone EMIA (Europe, Russia, Middle East, India, and Africa), commented: “Those customized Potenza tires have been fully developed, tested and manufactured in Europe, and are designed to meet the high demands of Maserati. Together again with Maserati, we have developed a specially developed Potenza tire to deliver the strength, control, and sports capabilities of Maserati’s MC20.
The Maserati MC20 will be launched on our market sometime in mid-2021 as part of Maserati’s drive to expand its footprint in India. Given that Bridgestone is the exclusive pneumatic partner of the supercar, the model will also have the same rubber Potenza in India.
Besides, the versions of the Trofeo Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante for our country were also lined up by Maserati.
