Mahindra XUV300 131hp Gets ICAT Certification
At the Auto Expo 2020, Mahindra unveiled a spicier ‘Sportz’ variant of the XUV300 for the first time. The model in question was a hotter turbo-petrol version of the compact SUV, set to debut in April 2020. Multiple delays were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a variety of other factors. The manufacturer is finally preparing to release this model in showrooms.
The Mahindra XUV300 Sportz model has got approval from ICAT (International Centre for Automobile Technology), Manesar, an Indian automotive certification agency. This type will be driven by a 1.2-litre direct injection three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 131 horsepower and 230 Nm, which is 21 horsepower and 30 Nm more than the normal petrol XUV300. A single 6-speed manual gearbox will transmit power to the front wheels.
Mahindra will also equip it with a mild-hybrid start-stop system to assist it to fulfil CAFE requirements by reducing CO2 emissions. It will also assist owners in keeping track of their vehicle’s fuel use while it is idling.
The XUV300 Sportz is expected to come in three sub-models: W6, W8, and W8(O), with identical equipment levels as the top-spec variants with the regular engine. To name a few features, it would include 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, auto headlights and wipers, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes, dual-zone climate control, and cruise control.
On the outside, there were somebody decals and red front brake callipers, while on the inside, there were black interiors with red stitching, which could be seen on the commercial version as well.
While no specific launch dates have been revealed, the fact that the authorising body has certified it suggests that it will happen soon. The Mahindra XUV300 Sportz will compete against the Hyundai Venue N Line, a sportier version of the Venue compact SUV that will debut on June 16, 2022.
