GMC Hummer EV reveal delayed
American automotive General Motors announced earlier that It will launch the much loved Hummer brand as premium electric SUV and pickups at an event in Las Vegas on May 20, 20202. But it has been postponed to an unspecified date due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Hummer eSUV by GMC brand will come with 1014hp and 15,592Nm of torque and capable of doing 0-96kph in 3sec. It has been claimed that It will be delivered with incredible on and off-road capabilities.
However, GM said the Hummer to go on sale in autumn 2021, saying in a statement that “development work continues on track and undeterred.” It added, “Even as we work to help flatten the curve, our mission to build the first-ever GMC Hummer EV remains the same.”
GMC vice president Duncan Aldred said, “GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs. The GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights.”
Gm is investing about 7.7 billion US dollars (About 57,775 crore INR) for preparing its US factories for making it capable of manufacturing Electric Vehicles. The Hummer eSUV will be manufactured at GM’s Hamtramck factory in Michigan which is upgraded recently to manufacture EVs with an amount of 3billion USD.
Production of the popular and iconic Hummer H2 and smaller H3 ended in 2009, and GM is eyeing a return to profit with its electric version. The new electric pick-up is likely to be priced to compete with the Rivian RS1 and could beat Tesla’s long-awaited truck to market.
