Ford Figo Petrol Automatic To Launch Soon
The Ford Figo will soon be available with an automatic transmission. The Maruti Swift challenger will have the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission paired with the petrol engine, as we initially reported last year.
The Ford Figo Petrol Automatic, which was lifted from the EcoSport, is now partnered with the existing 1.2-litre petrol engine, unlike prior iterations when it was paired with a higher displacement petrol engine.
The 1.2-litre engine now produces 96 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque and provides good performance at high engine speeds, as well as a powerful mid-range, while low-end response is limited. The new torque converter may be able to compensate for the car’s weak bottom end, making it seem more responsive on the low end.
To refresh your memory, the Figo has been available with an automatic gearbox since its inception in 2015. The petrol automatic Figo was launched with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 110hp and a dual-clutch automatic transmission. When Ford launched the more powerful 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine with the facelift in 2019, this was replaced by a torque converter unit. However, this option was removed about the time the hatchback was modified to meet BS6 standards.
The Ford Figo Petrol Automatic engine-gearbox combination will most likely be available on the Titanium trim level, as it was on the facelifted BS4 hatchback, though Ford may also offer it on the fully-loaded vehicle. Expect the automatic gearboxes to be more expensive than the manual versions.
The Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios will be competitors for the new Figo automatic. Both the Maruti and the Hyundai are powered by 1.2-litre petrol engines with 5-speed AMT transmissions on specified models. Ford is also working on an improved EcoSport for the Indian market, with a release date set for later this year.
