Porsche 718 Spyder And Cayman GT4 With Manual Gearbox Launched In India
Mid-engined Porsche 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 are now available in India. Such cars are capable of appealing to the hardened sports car enthusiasts with a newly built natural-aspirated engine, as they are among the most powerful models in the 718 series.
In incorporating a conventional six-speed manual transmission, Porsche has also considered true road car enthusiasts. Whereas the GT4 reflects Porsche’s entry-level GT road platform, the Spyder is oriented for open-top, aggressive driving around curved roads.
The new 4-liter, 6-cylinder engine, which quickly revs to 8,000 rpm and produces 420 bhp, lies underneath the hoods of both models. It produces 420 Nm of peak torque output from 5,000 to 6,800 rpm. The Cayman GT4 can reach a top speed of 304 km / h if allowed, with the Spyder also passing the barrier of 300 km / h by just crossing it at 301 km / h.
Both models are powered enough to quickly reach 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds from a standstill. Among the striking features of the 718 Cayman GT4 is its comprehensively improved aerodynamics that generates up to 50 percent more down-force without impacting drag. Not only is the fixed rear wing a visual highlight but it also produces around 20 percent more downforce relative to its predecessor.
A lightweight convertible top that provides a dramatic silhouette reminiscent of its famous predecessors also distinguishes the new 718 Spyder. Like the GT4, the 718 Spyder has a very fancy rear spoiler that automatically rises at 120 km / h and is combined with the practical diffuser. It is also the first model in the Boxster family to produce aerodynamic downforce over the rear axle.
The Porsche 718 Spyder is benefiting from the 718 Cayman GT4 high-performance GT chassis for the first time. It offers the next level of driving experience with its advanced lightweight spring-strut front and rear axles, with its superior cornering characteristics, allowing the use of some of Porsche’s racing innovations.
The damping mechanism for the Porsche Active Suspension Control decreases the ride height by 30 mm and also lowers the center of gravity of the car and increases its lateral dynamic potential. It was intended to sharpen the overall handling features of both models.
This time the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is working with much greater flexibility and accuracy but it can also be deactivated for all those enthusiasts who enjoy hooning around the tracks. With a mechanical rear differential lock, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) further improves longitudinal and lateral dynamics as well as cornering efficiency. The high-performance brake system in the Porsche 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 offers reliable braking with large mono-block aluminum fixed-caliper brakes that are ideal for track driving. Also available as an option, is the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).
