2021 Kia Carnival interior unveiled
Having unveiled its exterior design a few days ago, Kia has now released first photos of the all-new interior of the Carnival, shedding light on a few key features and confirming its dimensions as well.
One look at the interior of the 2021 Kia Carnival and you’ll know it has nearly nothing in common with its previous administration insides. Much as it did with the exterior, Kia has managed to lend an even more upmarket look and feel to the 2021 Kia Carnival ‘s interior – finished in beige and gray.
The dashboard is all-new, and the instrument cluster and infotainment system are two 12.3-inch displays that take center stage on the dash. They are built to fit under a single piece of glass and look like a seamless unit over a chrome strip spanning the dash’s width, connecting all four AC vents.
The dash has unpolished wood trim, and the three-speed steering wheel, too, is new. Although most of the features have been built into the large touchscreen, the center console retains several touch-sensitive buttons for the infotainment and climate control systems.
Even fresh is the dial for automatic transmission of the Carnival ‘s shift-by-wire, which appears to have been borrowed from the luxury sedan Genesis G80. The 2021 Kia Carnival will also retain its dual-sunroof system, powered rear sliding doors, and climate control in multi-zone environments.
Kia has also stated that when it goes on sale in Korea in the coming months, the 2021 Carnival will be offered in 7-, 9- and 11-seat configurations. Kia has shown the 7-seat model in the images, featuring reclining captain seats with a powered leg rest in the second row, displays for second-row passengers, a rear console storage drawer, and USB charging ports built into the front seatbacks.
Indeed, Kia confirmed that the latest Carnival is longer by 40 mm, so it comes in lengths of 5.155 mm. The rear overhang is longer, as is the wheelbase, which increased by 30 mm to 3.090 mm, and the new Carnival is also 10 mm wider at 1.995 mm. Kia says the increase in size has helped to generate more interior space, with the longer rear overhang enabling Kia to carve out more room for third-row passengers as well as luggage space.
Kia hasn’t shared any powertrain specifics for the 2021 Kia Carnival at this time, but it’s expected to bring the 2.2-liter diesel for select markets on the current model. For regions that prefer petrol, it is expected that the new Carnival will have the same 280hp, 2.5-liter turbo-petrol driving the current Kia Sorento, along with a hybrid option that will combine a 1.6-liter petrol engine with an electric motor.
The current-gen carnival has only been unveiled at this year’s Auto Expo in India in February. The third-gen MPV currently on sale in India, however, debuted globally back in 2014 and is predicted to be replaced, with Korea scheduled to get it first in the months ahead. Nonetheless, if you’re in India, don’t hold your breath for its arrival, as the new Carnival is only supposed to be coming to India by 2022.
