Renault Kiger SUV set to launch on October 2020
The Kiger (codename HBC) is an important model in India for Renault and one that marks the carmaker ‘s foray into the compact SUV segment. The sub-4 m SUV had initially been expected to match its brother, the Nissan Magnite.
However, as we noted, Nissan moved the launch of the Magnite to January 2021, paving the way for the Kiger to become the alliance partners’ first compact SUV entry.
The Kiger will go on sale around October 2020 enabling Renault to make the most of the demand for the festive season.
Like the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger will be based on the CMF-A+ platform of the Alliance which is also underpinning the Renault Triber. The compact SUV will be offered as a 5-seat model, but if the Triber is anything to go by, clever packaging from Renault could make the Kiger surprisingly spacious.
It’ll also share the Triber with its 1.0-liter petrol engine. A 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine (codename HR10) is also planned to be part of the Triber and Kiger, which is expected to release about 95hp. The gearbox options will include an automatic 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. The same powertrains are going to make way into Nissan’s Magnite.
Renault will equip the Kiger with features such as an infotainment touchscreen system, steering-mounted audio controls, and automatic HVAC climate control. With connected car technology, the compact SUV could be offered too.
