2022 Toyota Innova Hycross Breaks CoverIn Indonesia
In Indonesia, Toyota has officially unveiled the brand-new Innova Zenix. This 2022 Toyota Innova Hycross, will make its premiere in India later this week. According to our sources, the Innova Hycross will resemble the Innova Zenix almost exactly, which provides us with a clear picture of what to anticipate from the new Toyota MPV for India.
1,850mm broad and 4,755mm long make up the new Innova. The height is the same at 1,795mm, despite the fact that both of these measures are greater than the Innova Crysta. The new model’s wheelbase is 100mm longer than the previous one, measuring 2,850mm as opposed to 2,750mm. Compared to the Crysta, it has shorter overhangs but a longer wheelbase, which helps free up more cabin space. However, Toyota has kept the Innova Crysta’s 185mm ground clearance and similar approach and departure angles.
With the new Innova, Toyota has deliberately designed the MPV to appear more SUV-like from the front while maintaining an unmistakable Innova appearance from all sides. A sizable trapezoidal grille painted in contrast black with chrome accents covers the upright nose. A distinctive cheatline in the middle of its broad front bumper cleverly fuses with triangular pieces on each corner. On the higher variants, the cheatline additionally houses large, horizontally positioned LED daytime running lamps.
The corners of the bumper are beautifully embellished with simulated aluminium pieces. There are chrome separators between each lamp in the headlamps’ wide, wraparound design, which neatly houses twin tiers of LED projector units. There is also what appears to be an additional set of daytime running lamps on top, like an “eyebrow.”
On the sides, there are two defining creases that run the length of the doors and perfectly blend with the wraparound taillamps, evoking the style of the Avanza Veloz MPV that is sold abroad.
The glasshouse of the Innova Hycross appears to be comparable in size to that of the previous Innova Crysta, giving substantial cabin space for all three rows of seats. The new Innova has an upscale appearance thanks to the alloy wheel design.
The interior of the 2022 Toyota Innova Hycross is entirely different from the Innova Crysta, much like the exterior. New dashboard architecture with a twin-layer arrangement helps free up more room in the front row. The centre console, the steering wheel, and the fully digital instrument cluster appear to be identical to those found on the most recent generation of the Toyota Voxy MPV, which is available in various international markets, despite the fact that the dashboard appears to be unique. The 10-inch floating touchscreen is what jumps out here, with the dashboard and air conditioning vents receiving a silver finish. Lower models come with a smaller 4.2-inch multi-info display and an analogue instrument cluster with a 9-inch touchscreen.
Just over the glove box on the passenger side is a sizable storage recess. The dashboard-mounted gear lever console, which creates more room between the front seats, is another innovation. The interior of higher models will include dual-tone, leather seats, and other features. On the Innova Hycross headed for India, interior colour schemes like dark brown (mocha) and an all-black theme are also anticipated. Depending on the configuration, the Innova Hycross offers seating arrangements for seven or eight passengers.
Comparatively speaking, the new Innova Hycross has a lot more equipment. The interior of higher variations has faux wood and metal finishes, quilted leather seats, second row captain chairs with ottoman functions, larger alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, full-LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, and other features.
Additionally, higher trim levels provide dedicated climate control for the second row of seats as well as up to four USB C connections distributed around the cabin. On higher variations, it also has an automatic hold feature, an electronic parking brake, and drive modes. The second row of passengers in Indonesia’s top variations also gets two 10-inch screens.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which has technology like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, is available for the new Innova Hycross. The new Innova is also equipped with a tonne of safety measures, including numerous airbags, three-point seatbelts for every passenger, ABS, and EBD. All versions of the new Innova also feature four-wheel disc brakes.
A 2.0-litre petrol engine that, in some variants, receives a boost from fifth-generation strong hybrid technology powers the Innova Hycross (the M20A FXS). Like the majority of Toyota hybrid engines, this one maximises efficiency by using an Atkinson or Miller cycle. It generates 152 horsepower and 19.09 kgm of torque when connected to an electric motor, giving off a total of 186 hp.
Toyota has additionally released a non-hybrid variation of the same 1987cc engine (M20A-FKS). This engine has a CVT gearbox and produces 174 horsepower and 20.9 kg. As of right now, there is no information on any variant offering a manual gearbox.
Considering similar spec SUVs and people carriers on the same Toyota platform, expect a fuel efficiency number for the Innova Hycross hybrid between 20 and 23kpl, making it easily the most efficient vehicle in its class. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure for the Innova Hycross could be revealed only later this week. The new Innova Hycross will have a full-EV mode available on the strong hybrid models, just like the Hyryder.
Outside of Bengaluru, in Bidadi, Toyota’s plant number one is building the Innova Hycross while plant number two produces the Hyryder. According to Toyota India dealers, the Innova Hycross would likely cost slightly more than the outgoing Innova Crysta, between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 28 lakh.
