Ather Energy signs A MoU with Karnataka Government For Providing Fast Charger Network
Ather Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karnataka’s ESCOMs (electric supply companies) to establish over 1,000 fast charging points across the state. The collaboration aims to increase EV adoption by reducing range anxiety, which has proven to be a major impediment to their widespread adoption.
The state-owned power and transmission company ESCOM will serve as the nodal agency to provide support to the implementing agency under the terms of the MoU. All government agencies will work with ESCOMs to share available charging station space. The agreement was signed in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai by Tarun Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Ather Energy, and Rajendra Cholan, managing director of BESCOM.
At the moment, Ather operates over 300 fast chargers in 28 cities across the country. It has also made the IP for its connector pins available to all OEMs, with the goal of constructing over 5,000 fast-charging stations across the country. To boost the EV industry, the Karnataka government, like many other states, has provided EV subsidies and incentives, as well as waived road tax for electric two-wheelers.
