2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Launched At Rs 31.99 Lakh

Volkswagen has introduced the Tiguan facelift in India at a starting price of Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Bookings for the SUV are now available, with delivery beginning in mid-January 2022. The five-seater SUV is built in India at VW’s Aurangabad facility and comes in a single fully-loaded Elegance trim level.

The decision to construct the Tiguan in India appears to have had minimal impact on the SUV’s pricing, with the five-seater SUV costing around Rs 2.21 lakh less than the bigger three-row Tiguan Allspace. The now-discontinued Allspace was imported as a CBU and was priced at Rs 34.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan keeps the squared-off form of the previous model, but with a few important tweaks to distinguish it. The Tiguan facelift has new, sharper headlights, a new front bumper, and a redesigned front grille. It also has new 18-inch alloy wheels, a re-profiled rear bumper, new LED components in the taillights, and Tiguan branding on the tailgate.

The exterior paint colors for the Tiguan include Nightshade Blue, Pure White, Oryx White, Deep Black, Dolphin Grey, Reflex Silver, and Kings Red.

The dashboard appearance and layout of the new Tiguan are identical to the outgoing model, with the largest difference being the touchscreen temperature control system, which replaces the traditional buttons and knobs. Volkswagen’s new steering, shown on the Taigun SUV, is also visible on the Tiguan facelift, complete with the brand’s new emblem.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan includes a powered panoramic sunroof, LED Matrix headlights, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a 10-inch digital instrument screen, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, three-zone climate control, an eight-way powered driver’s seat, and other features. Six airbags, ABS, ESP, hill-start and downhill aid, a tire pressure monitor, ISOFIX anchors, and a Driver Alert System are among the safety features.

The Tiguan facelift is powered by a single 190hp, 320Nm, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TSI turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

This 2.0-liter engine replaces the 143hp, 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel engine used in the previous five-seater Tiguan.2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan will compete with other five-seater luxury SUVs powered by petrol, such as the Jeep Compass (Rs 17.29 lakh-25.84 lakh) and the Hyundai Tucson (Rs 22.69 lakh-24.37 lakh). The locally produced Tiguan is more expensive than its petrol-powered counterparts, priced closer to the fully-loaded Compass Model S diesel-auto 4×4 (Rs 29.34 lakh) and the diesel-only Citroen C5 Aircross (Rs 31.99 lakh) (Rs 31.30-32.80 lakh). In comparison, a fully outfitted Tucson diesel costs Rs 27.47 lakh.
