2022 Toyota Glanza Launched At INR 6.39 Lakh
The 2022 Toyota Glanza has arrived in our market, only a few weeks after its sister model, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The Glanza has an introductory price of Rs 6.39 lakh for the base E trim and Rs 9.69 lakh for the top-spec S automatic trim (ex-showroom, India). Last week, Toyota began taking reservations for the new Glanza through its dealerships and website for a nominal fee of Rs 11,000.
The 2022 Toyota Glanza (like its predecessor) shares a lot of styling cues with the Baleno on which it is based. While the overall proportions and silhouettes of the two models are nearly identical, Toyota has made a greater effort to distinguish the two models this time around. The Glanza gets a new grille inspired by the Camry, a sportier front bumper, and new headlights with simpler LED daytime running light graphics (the three-block DRLs are exclusive to the Baleno).
The interior design and layout are also similar to the new Baleno, with a layered dashboard, free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, and a similar steering wheel design. The black and beige colour scheme is seen throughout the cabin, which gives it an upmarket look, which is the biggest change in the interior.
Unlike the previous Glanza, which was only available in the higher G and V trims, the new Glanza is available in four trim levels: E, S, G, and V, which are very similar to the Baleno’s Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha trims. As a result, the new Glanza can have a much lower starting price than before.
The top-spec Glanza comes with a head-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, ‘Toyota i-Connect’ connected car tech, automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic steering, and six airbags.
The warranty coverage, which is three years/1,00,000 kilometres as standard and can be extended to five years/2,20,000 kilometres, is one area where Toyota hopes to set the Glanza apart.
The 2022 Toyota Glanza is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder DualJet K12N petrol engine with 90hp and 113Nm (same as the Baleno). The engine is available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. This is also the first Toyota in India to come equipped with an AMT transmission.
In the premium hatchback segment, the Toyota Glanza competes against the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, and Volkswagen Polo.
