2021 Toyota Fortuner facelift spied on Indian road
Just a month after its global debut, the facelifted Toyota Fortuner has been spotted testing in India. This modified rival Ford Endeavor is available in two versions. The vanilla version was caught on camera based on the spy shots while for India the premium Legender variant is also on the cards.
Toyota should also use the opportunity to equip the Fortuner with the improved 2.8-liter diesel engine 204PS/500Nm, which is 27PS/50Nm (manual 80Nm) more powerful than the current version. And emission testing equipment on the mule reaffirms that the upgraded diesel is already compliant with BS6 as the existing 2.8-liter diesel. Expect to sell this motor along with the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models, with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. This is also likely to retain the 2.7-liter petrol engine.
In terms of style, the Fortuner butch gets a bigger front grille flanked by new headlamps with LEDs. The bumper is fresh too, and it gets bigger air dams, giving it a menacing appearance. Changes in the profile are limited to new alloy dual tone wheels. The only changes on the back are LED tail lamps and a new bumper.
Within, the cabin of the Fortuner facelift is identical to that of the current SUV except that Apple CarPlay now features the touchscreen infotainment system. Android users however need to rely on Bluetooth.
A host of feature updates like a JBL sound system, an upgraded 9-inch infotainment system, and a wireless phone charger are all likely to be available.
2021 Toyota Fortuner is expected to retain such features as climate control, cruise control, and drive modes. Seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and electronic stability control can be provided on the safety line. Yet it’s doubtful Toyota will sell a sunroof.
It is expected that the 2021 Toyota Fortuner will hit showrooms early next year, and we expect prices to start from about Rs 30 lakh ( ex-showroom). The Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the forthcoming MG Gloster must lock horns.
