2021 Mercedes-AMG SL Interior Unveiled
The interior of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG SL roadster has been unveiled ahead of its official debut later this year. Last year, the new SL was previewed in its pre-production form.
According to Mercedes, the interior design is inspired by the AMG GT and GT 4-Door Coupe, but the centre console is dominated by an 11.9-inch touchscreen. The portrait position is superior for navigation, according to the manufacturer, and the entire screen can be automatically rotated to provide drivers with the finest possible perspective.
The 12.3-inch instrument display, which runs the brand’s MBUX infotainment system, is totally digital, and drivers may tailor the menus to their tastes. The screen “is not designed to be free-standing but fitted inside a high-tech visor” that minimises glare from sunlight, according to Mercedes. A head-up display that can depict the car’s surroundings in 3D is also available as an option. Burmester speakers will be built into the doors of the new model, and 64-colour ambient lighting will allow drivers to customise the cabin’s ambience.
For the first time since the Mercedes SL R129 model from 1989, the AMG SL features a 2+2 seating layout. The back seats are ideal for youngsters, and Mercedes claims that a draught stopper can prevent unwanted airflow around the driver and front passenger when they are not in use.
Mercedes has paid special attention to the inside finish, which is in keeping with the car’s sporty yet comfortable brief. Customers can select from single-tone or two-tone Nappa leather, as well as a selection of stitching colours.
Mercedes published specs of the new AMG SL last month, ahead of its expected unveiling later this year. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG SL features an aluminium spaceframe with a “self-supporting structure,” as well as a broader selection of powertrain options.
The basic shell of the car – without the doors, bonnet, or bootlid – weighs 270kg, thanks to a combination of aluminium, steel, magnesium, and fibre composites that boost stiffness by 18% over the previous generation. A fabric top will be available on the new SL, as well as a 4Matic+ all-wheel drive.
Mercedes intends to offer a limited number of hybridized in-line six-cylinder and V8 petrol engines with the SL. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG SLwill be built on Mercedes’ MSA platform, which will also serve as the foundation for the next-generation AMG GT.
While Mercedes sold the SL in India from 2001 to the early 2010s, it did not bring the current-generation model, which was unveiled in 2012, to the country. In addition, no formal declaration has been made by the German automaker about its plans to offer the new model in India. However, after its introduction later this year, the new Mercedes SL could return to our market. It will compete with the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911 if it is launched in India.
