Spy photos of the next-gen Honda Civic’s camouflaged test mule have appeared online. The images reveal the successor’s key details to the tenth-gen model that was revealed back in 2016 and given a facelift in 2018. What would the new Civic have in store, then? Here’s a glimpse closer.
The model that was sighted undergoing road testing is the Civic’s four-door sedan version. The prototype is sporting a redesigned pair of LED headlamps upfront. The thick chrome bar on the nose of the new model seems to have been raised a bit, and the central air dam looks larger in scale.
In profile, the 2021 Honda Civic retains the fastback-like body style of its predecessor with a swooping roofline flowing smoothly into the portion of the boot. And the bonnet looks longer and more flatter.
We have yet to get a glimpse of the rear section and interiors of the revamped vehicle.
At this point, information about the upcoming Civic’s underpinnings and powertrains remain scarce. In India, the latest model comes with a naturally aspirated 141hp, 1.8-liter petrol engine mated to an automatic 7-step CVT transmission. As a standard, the 120hp, 1.6-liter diesel, which is soon to be reintroduced in the form of BS6, is matched to a 6-speed manual.
Overall, the Civic model range includes a variety of gasoline engines ranging from a 1.0-liter turbo and 1.5-liter turbo to a naturally aspired 2.0-liter unit. The 1.6-liter diesel is also on sale. The Civic Type R souped-up features a powerful 320hp, 2.0-liter turbo-petrol mill matched to a manual 6-speed gearbox.
The 2021 Honda Civic is set to make its public debut in 2021-2022. Honda’s India plans for the new model will address the launch more clearly.
The current model is available globally in multiple body styles including a 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, and 2-door coupe, only the first of which is available on our market.
Back in 1972, the Civic nameplate was introduced. In India, only two versions of the model were ever on sale. From 2006-2012, the 8th generation was retailed here and the 10th-gen sedan was launched by Honda early in 2019.
