Bentley Bentayga facelift revealed
Bentley has finally unveiled its mid-cycle update for its iconic luxury Bentayga SUV. In the coming months, the product will go on sale in Europe followed by releases in a range of Asian markets.
The Bentayga has been a key model for Bentley since it was launched back in 2015, with more than 20,000 models finding homes. As a result, the changes to the exterior aren’t radical, rather serving to align the SUV with the brand’s newer models, the Continental GT and Flying Spur. Every front-end and rear-end panel has been updated, Bentley says. The most noticeable adjustment to offer a “more impactful” profile is the new ‘matrix’ grille, which is bigger and 30mm higher.
It sits alongside new headlights of the LED matrix, which have a cut-crystal design to make them sparkle even when they are not lit. What’s more, the styling of the Bentley Bentayga has been modified to visually enlarge the front road, while the rear axle is 20 mm wider and the wheels are repositioned in the arches. The bonnet is also redesigned to the form of a clamshell.
Further specification changes include new 3D elliptical taillights with animated LEDs, similar to those on the Continental GT, and a rear number plate repositioned on the bumper to allow the spelling of ‘Bentley’ across the tailgate. There’s also a bigger rear bumper, new side vents, and a new 22-inch wheel package, plus two additional paint colors.
Now standard are new oval-shaped split tailpipes, heated wipers with 22 washer jets in each arm and now there is an optional Blackline version that gets blacked-out chrome on the exterior alterations.
The redesigned Bentley Bentayga cabin is undergoing major changes. The new seat frames combined with extra reclining now allow for a 100 mm increase in knee space on the back. There are also ventilated rear seats, while the Bentley Bentayga with four, five, or seven seats can still be had. Rear passengers also get an upgraded 5.0-inch portable touchscreen tablet to monitor functions for entertainment and comfort.
The aging infotainment was overhauled right upfront. The new device comes standard with a 10.9-inch high-resolution touchscreen featuring integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Certain features that upgrade it include USB-C ports, air ionizers, wireless mobile charging, and an integrated data services SIM card.
As in newer Bentleys, the traditional instrument dials have been replaced with a digital display and the head-up display shows much more data. Additionally, the audio system was revamped. A 790W, 12-speaker stereo is available as standard, with an optional Bentley Naim system bringing it to 1780W and 20 speakers.
Yet Bentley has not concentrated exclusively on the gadgets. The front seats also have a modern, more ergonomic design, while the updated center fascia, steering wheel, and door trims offer new sustainable veneer designs, knurling switchgear, and aluminum brushed with diamonds.
Mechanical improvements are more restrained. Notably, the W12 engine is no longer available to buyers in Europe and the UK, meaning the key option is the same 550hp, 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged petrol V8 as in the current car. This unit retains the ability to deactivate four of its cylinders to boost fuel economy under light throttle loads. Since the diesel V8 axed back in 2018, a reworked version of the V6 petrol-electric plug-in hybrid is the only other option for powertrains.
The pre-facelift version of this SUV was on sale in India and we hope that sometime next year, Bentley will bring the modified Bentley Bentayga to India.
