2021 Audi Q5 Sportback Adds Style
In recent years, Audi’s “Q” range has exploded to try to quench the insatiable demand that buyers have for SUVs. The Four Rings have everything from a tiny Q2 to a less than small Q8, plus the E-Tron hybrid SUV duo. The Ingolstadt high-riding model family will start to expand later this year with the introduction of the Q4 E-Tron and this – the Q5 Sportback.
Sportback joined the SUV market with the Q3 Sportback and the E-Tron Sportback, a concept traditionally reserved for hatchbacks and the bigger liftbacks. The 2021 Audi Q5 is the next sports utility vehicle in line to have the swoopy roof on. Our good mates at Kolesa have conceived the rather simplistic Q5 Sportback concept by hitting the roofline with the coupe screw.
Although beauty may be in the beholder ‘s eye, that doesn’t stop us from saying that the latest take on the Q5 recipe doesn’t automatically turn into a prettier SUV. There are also disadvantages, such as less rear headroom and smaller cargo space, that need to be considered. However, Audi generally needs more money for a Sportback SUV model than the conventionally styled model.
For the confusingly called “40 TDI” specification the Russian artists behind this rendering used an official illustration of the 2021 Audi Q5 facelift and dressed for Mamba Blue. We expect an SQ5 to join the latest entry in Audi’s ever-growing SUV range, either from day one or a little later in the life cycle. We don’t see a reason why the Sportback wouldn’t get the inline-five engine with a company spokesperson saying an RS Q5 could happen. Audi only markets an RS Q3 Sportback after all.
The Q5 Sportback and the aforementioned Q4 E-Tron are not the ends of the expansion of Audi’s SUV as the newly launched Q4 Sportback E-Tron concept will be converted into a namesake production model by 2021.
As if that wasn’t enough, a new flagship SUV called “Q9” is also rumored to go after the likes of Mercedes GLS and BMW X7. Audi did patent Q9 back in 2013 and said it had “too many proposals” for a range-topping SUV a couple of years ago. This might, in other words, very well happen.
