2020 Benelli Leoncino 250 Launched
In his home country, Benelli is busy making a few waves. Back to back releases of the product with new features and powertrains brought us quite a FOMO. Now the bikemaker ‘s portfolio has been updated with the launch of Leoncino 250 2020. The Leoncino may have been designed over a Scrambler’s design principles but it is not fundamentally a Scrambler in terms of functionality. Benelli’s quarter-liter version is priced in its home market at INR 2.15 Lakh.
It slots the 2020 Benelli Leoncino 250 as an affordable alternative to the Leoncino 500. The 2020 Benelli Leoncino 250 is powered by a 249cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine. The motor features a 4-valve dual overhead camshaft per cylinder, electronic fuel injection with a 37 mm throttle body, and a 6-speed gearbox. Maximum power and torque are estimated at 26.8bhp at 10.500rpm and peak torque at 20.5Nm at 8.500rpm.
Highlighting the Leoncino 250 style, the engine is nestled within a steel tube trellis frame that supports the tank design, as does the extremely compact tail guard. Compared with the Leoncino 500, its elder sibling, the full-LED headlight assembly is entirely redesigned. The instrument panel is digital in all conditions and is said to be clearly visible. Unlike its elder sibling, the 2020 Benelli Leoncino 250 sports a proud, laser-cut Lion on the front mudguard, reminiscent of this model ‘s past.
The chassis is supported upfront by a 41 mm upside-down fork, while the rear receives a mono-shock that can be balanced pre-load. The braking system includes a 280 mm floating disc with a four-piston caliper up front and a 240 mm disk with a single-piston floating caliper at the back with Dual-Channel ABS. At the front and rear respectively, the 17′′ aluminum alloy wheels mount 110/70-R17 and 150/60-R17.
Although there is no official word about its launch in India, we assume that when Benelli wants to move forward its operations in India, it will launch the Leoncino 250 here too. The Leoncino 250 ‘s prime rival will be the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250, launched recently.Even the Svartpilen is designed as a Scrambler and both the bikes look very different and special from the other set of wheels that we normally see on the road. The Husqvarna retails at 1.85 lakes (ex-showroom Delhi) for an introductory price.
The Svartpilen has a rugged build with an upright stance. The dual-purpose tires add to his harsh appeal. This uses the same KTM Duke 250 design and maintains the same engine. The DOHC 248.8 cc fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine puts out 30 ps of peak power @ 9000 rpm and torque of 24 Nm @ 7500 rpm. WP suspension, Bosch dual-channel ABS, LED headlight, and taillight are the main features.
